THE VILLAGE
Sella
A working mountain village at 430 metres, where the Aitana range begins and the coast feels a world away.
Sella sits at 430 metres on the southern slopes of the Aitana, the highest range in the province of Alicante, in the valley of the Rio Sella. It is a real village, not a resort. People live here year round, the streets are stone, and the rhythm is set by the mountain rather than the season. Casalvia sits in its heart, on the Plaça Major.
THE SETTING
Above the rooftops rise the limestone walls of the Penya de Sella and, beyond them, the long ridge of the Aitana at 1,558 metres. This is karst country: grey rock, wild sage and rosemary, terraces of almond and olive, and a quiet that is hard to find closer to the coast. On clear mornings you can see from the crags to the sea.

IN THE MOUNTAINS
Climbing
Sella is one of the central bases for climbing on the Costa Blanca. The main crags are around ten minutes from the village, with more than 500 routes across many sectors, from gentle slabs to hard limestone walls. The multi-pitch lines of the Puig Campana, the Peñón, Toix and the gorges of the Mascarat are all within easy reach.
Cycling
The roads above Sella are a long-standing pilgrimage for cyclists. The Alto de Aitana, a hors categorie climb that has finished stages of the Vuelta a España, starts in the valley below. Beyond it lie quiet inland roads, mountain passes, and the legendary coastal climbs of the Marina Baixa, with the altitude of the village as a natural base for training and recovery.
Hiking
Trails run straight out of the village and into the range: the ascent to the summit of the Aitana past the old ice houses and mountain springs, the ridge of the Penya de Sella, and shorter local routes like the Ruta de l'Aigua. Limestone, holm oak, and cold clear water from the fonts along the way.
Stillness
Not every day is a summit. Sella keeps a slower clock, and the setting is made for it: reading on the terrace, an unhurried lunch, an afternoon drifting through the streets, or a quiet morning of focused work. Rest and stillness are their own reason to come.
VILLAGE LIFE
Life in Sella still turns around the Plaça Major, where Pelota Valenciana is played against the house facades on summer evenings and the village band rehearses on Fridays. The year has its rhythm: the spring feria, the cultural week in August, and the fiestas on the first weekend of October. A handful of restaurants, a slower clock, and neighbours who greet you.

BEYOND THE VILLAGE
When you want to venture further, the area rewards it. The Finca Seguró bodega, where they make local wine, is twenty minutes away. Safari Aitana is twenty-five. And for a family day out, Terra Natura and Aqua Natura, and the Terra Mítica theme park, are all around twenty-five minutes by car.
GETTING HERE
Sella is about forty-five minutes from Alicante, both the airport and the city. The nearest beach is twenty minutes away at La Vila Joiosa, also called Villajoyosa, a colourful seaside town of painted houses, restaurants and bars, and a seafront made for a slow walk.
